For those of you who don't know--we are going to a midwife:) It all started when our friend Josh told me that I MUST watch this movie with him before even thinking of getting pregnant! And I did- TWICE. The movie was the Business of Being Born. An amazing documentary that highlights the role of midwifes and the hospitals in giving birth. Anyways--I now am involved in a prenatal group called Centering. Basically, instead of going to the midwife by ourselves-we go as a whole group with other pregs whose due dates are around the same time. I LOVE IT! Not to mention the group encourages "your people" to come. So Russ and Colleen (my awesome mother-in-law) have rotated coming. Della will jump on this bandwagon when she gets here in April.
We also began last week with our Bradley Classes. It's amazing---6/7 other couples in this woman's house learning how to do birth in an non-medicated way. LOVE IT! It feels so empowering to learn that birth doesn't have to be this feared event, but rather one of the most amazing events in your life that can be conquered. I have to say-I'm sure I'll go through phases of being scared, but ultimately I am so excited for the birth part. When I look back during my life the things I'm most proud of are those where I was pushed to the point that I didn't know if I could push anymore-yet I did. I think about hiking in the Tetons, climbing mountains in the Dominican Republic, playing 6 games of 3-on-3 in 2 days, basketball tryouts, and learning to snowboard on a blue (which took me 4 hours to get down this mountain, when it took my friends 15 minutes).
Ok...anyways...My appointment today! Well I gained an almost hefty 5 lbs:) Watch out!!! This isn't horrible, but is a little more than usual. This explains my two a night feedings lately! When the midwife went to measure my fundal height (for those of you who don't know the term--this is the top of my uterus. THATS right this is partly a pregnancy blog-so get used to the terms--UTERUS UTERUS UTERUS). Anyways-my fundal height was quite impressive compared to my measurement two weeks ago-which the midwife stated that I'm measuring 4 weeks ahead of schedule. So it could be that the baby went on a growth spurt the last two weeks, i have gestational diabetes, baby is huge, baby was laying across my tummy, etc. I have another appointment in two weeks-and I'll let you know whats going on!
And lastly, I ended the day with a prenatal massage that was heavenly! I see many of these in my future:)
