AYLEN JOHN is TWO!

I can't believe our little guy is now 2 YEARS old.  He's grown into such an amazing fella.  He is just so smart and inquisitive.  He's a pain and a complete lover.  He will often clear his plate, but sometimes leaves everything.  He loves yogurt, black beans, peanut butter, broccoli, cereal, milk, pork, and ice cream.  People always seem to comment on first the Eyelashes ("those are the longest eyelashes I've ever seen", "they are like daddy long legs", "where's he get those lashes from") and then people will often comment on how well he plays by himself.  Russ and I were just discussing this independent play.  We were wondering if it was just his personality or also the fact that Russ and I tend to let him go off and do his own thing.  Probably a little of both.

Aylen still doesn't sleep through the night, well I would say once every 3 months he will.  Otherwise, he tends to come in our room around 3 or 4am.  He doesn't go to sleep on his own, but will after a book and a good cuddle with me or Dad.

He travels amazing in the car.  Recently he gets into listening to my old Ipod nano with these amazingly big headphones.  He LOVES Thomas the Train (although we rarely watch it he knows about it!), animals, and recently into Legos.

Aylen appears to be rather shy around people he doesn't know, but this latest Nebraska trip demonstrated that he may not be as shy as we think.  He warmed up to SO many people during our journey everywhere.  Every other hour it felt like we were around some person that he didn't know or it had been awhile since he had seen them.

Aylen has become a great big brother too.  He is learning to share (and it seems like what works best is counting to 10 while his brother holds something that is his and then he gets it back).  Aylen is always asking where's Ryke (his own nickname).  Ryker could watch Aylen and laugh all day long.

Since we were having a family reunion/Christmas on my side-Aylen was able to have an early party and have my family there to celebrate!  It was so amazing.  It wasn't the traditional birthday party by any means.  We didn't even SING Happy Birthday!  I don't know how that happened! Lol!  We had a swim party that was way too cold!  We didn't have people bring presents, because Frankly WE DON'T need anything more for him!

I was so happy to find a tractor cake mold that I was going to make this rainbow cake recipe.  I had sent this picture to some people stating that I was definitely mother (expletive)((I know I didn't have to put that, but it's the truth) Betty Crocker.  But as quick as the text sent, I realized that I forgot the flour in the cake mold.  WHICH meant yea right that thing wasn't going to come out of the mold no matter how much Crisco I used.

SO we made Cake Pops.  And they turned out wonderful and it was awesome.  We also had dirt cake, because who doesn't want to eat dirt cake.  Boom.

I just was super thankful that we had so many family members and friends there to celebrate!

Aylen did however receive some loot.  Thomas the Train gear and some  clothing, and then the excellent and an awesome sandbox.

On his actual birthday we were celebrating with Grammy and crew in Nebraska.  Laurel and Grammy were great and got a cake and we sang.  Annie Rose showed Aylen how to do it right....

Aylen John is a lucky dude.  He has some amazing family from all over the country that were able to celebrate with him.  It makes me happy to know that Aylen has so many cool, creative, inspiring family members loving him and showing him all different kinds of ways to live.

My cousin Karl got Aylen the Oh the Places You'll Go book...and I'm in love.  So let's end with a great quote from that book...

“So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life's A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you'll move mountains.”-Dr Seuss.

Aylen John-you listen here.  I fully believe you will move mountains.  Thank you for all that you have taught me and continue to teach me.  You are an amazing kid who has changed me forever.

Love,
Momma
