Braces

Dempsey got braces! It was a crazy turn of events where we thought Ryk was the one to need them, but turns out he is good for awhile and Dempsey was priority.

Dempsey has big feelings a decent bit of time, so I was anxious about the whole thing. Dempsey was VErY worried that kids were going to make fun of her and that she was the “only second grader with braces.”

Russ took her to the appointments and I asked if they could come see me at work after the appointment. I was having huge Mom guilt about not being there for her actual appointment. Russ brought her to me and she got to hangout for awhile with me and the middle schoolers

I was so proud of her because she actually talked to a group of 7th grade girls. She told them that she had just gotten her braces on and was nervous about other kids. These girls gave some advice. “Just punch them.” “Just ignore them.” Dempsey hear this advice and decorated my board:)

She went to school later and ended up being just great! We had to do her expander every night for 12 days. We called it doing the “twisties”.

Overall our first experience with braces is going well:)
I will say that when I got braces it was the first year in high school. Since Dempsey is so young, I’m in charge of flossing her teeth. It’s um…kinda interesting. But all good!

Love,
Mom
