The Kids have been BUSY

Oh these kids have been busy lately!

1. Ryker's 5th Grade Field Day. This turned into an interesting parent/kid situation. The night before his traditional field day for 5th graders he asked if Russell or I would be there. I wasn't planning on it because we were super short staffed at my school. Russell wasn't either because he had to head to Denver for meetings. Ryker was a mess. I felt horrible, and didn't realize (nor did he) how much he wanted one of us there. I had this internal battle about feeling compelled to be at work, but also wanted to be there for my Ryker. Luckily, I texted my boss my dilemma and she was instantly like, "GO!" So I was able to catch his last 2 events and it happened to be the ones that he got 1st and 2nd place in! It was a good lesson that my allegiance is always to my family.

2. Dempsey had her last concert for Kidzing at Skyline High School. It was such a cool music festival celebrating the arts. Dempsey was fully engaged and did not express any disinterest in the whole thing, which shows tremendous growth on her part. It was fun to see her with her good friends, singing away.

3. Ryker played his last flag football game. Ryker has been coached by high school boys and it has been a positive experience. Ryker demonstrated insane defensive talent and had some great catches too. He learned the skills of teamwork, how it feels when things aren't exactly fair, and patience. I've been missing our kids playing sports, so this was a nice 6 week commitment!

4. Dempsey had her end of the year hip hop recital. She looked insanely more comfortable up on the stage. She nailed every move, as did her whole troupe. I just keep thinking how brave she is to be in front of so many people-dancing! So cool! They offered a Mothers/Daughters dance, similar to last session when she did the Fathers/Daughters Dance with Russell. Dempsey told me she did not want to do it. Part of me was sad that we didn't have that experience together, but the other part of me was proud of myself for not forcing her to do something that she wasn't interested in.

While we had a busy time, it was also such a wondering time as parents!

Love,

Mom
